The Cumulus Community has two sister corporations as its foundation to contribute to solving modern polycrisis: one for profit, the other not.
- Our LLC, SubtleTea Solutions (STS), is a computational and organizational science services company dedicated to realizing lucrative yet sustainable business models.
- Our nonprofit, the Generation of Participation in Democracy (GPD) is registered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity and a California Public Benefit Corporation meeting all associated compliance requirements—see also CalNonprofits Nonprofit Compliance Checklist.

- The GPD’s first Flagship Organization is the Instituto Dourados. The Instituto’s mission is to provide computational epidemiological tools for public health planning that will be owned, maintained, and further developed by Indigenous communities in the Grande Dourados region in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and beyond.
Governance
The Cumulus Community is guided by a shared governance model designed to promote transparency, continuity, and responsible stewardship across our affiliated organizations and projects.
Our Governance page introduces the Board of Directors, explains our current governance structure, and provides access to governance documents: meeting minutes and other institutional records. We believe that durable institutions are built through clear responsibilities, documented decisions, and an ongoing commitment to openness and thoughtful evolution.
Strategic Organization and Communication
We focus on developing an approach to social change that strategically balances economic cooperation and competition, guided by a new integrative approach to social science.
We are staunchly anti-ideology. We will never seek to force conformity.
Our system is founded on the belief that all people should be free to choose for themselves based on their own self interest. Education, therefore, is essential so that one can independently confirm that they chose what they want, which requires knowing how to tell good from bad in an ever more complex world.
In the Cumulus Community we focus on developing beneficial practices as antidotes to occupy the cultural niche otherwise occupied by relatively harmful ones. Democratic change tends to focus on influencing and winning elections, petitioning government, protest, and other overt forms of struggle.
Our operating hypothesis takes a different approach: we believe we can each do better individually if we design and willingly adopt strategic social coordination policies.
